Repeat customers are the best. I’ve been delighted to photograph some folks several times over the years. One particular family has added a child with each session. This year, I had the good fortune to photograph them on an absolutely perfect Fall day.

Good Neighbors
When I was pregnant with my son I went into panic-nesting mode and bought a house in Saint Paul. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. That house gave me 12 years of stress but I don’t regret my choice. It also gave us plenty of joy. Parts of that city are quirky. […]
Cliché, but true
They Grow Up So Fast Once upon a time we had the best neighbors in the world. The parents were great company and their adorable daughter was slightly older than my son. The two spent a lot of time playing together and it was great. But they moved away as their family grew and they […]
Northward Equinox
Springing Ahead The Walker Art Center’s Sculpture Garden has long been one of my favorite places in Minneapolis (along with the Walker itself). I clearly remember my first visit, on a field trip with my suburban (but nearly rural) school. It just felt magical. Like a creative oasis. I started visiting on my own as […]
The First Citizen of Minneapolis
The Ancient Oak Last winter seemed to be never-ending. There were far too many of those soul-sucking Polar Arctic Vortex days with dangerous windchills. So severe that classes were canceled on multiple occasions. A rare thing for Minnesotan schools! This winter has been far gentler (knock on wood). Mild enough that I was able to […]
Let It Snow
The Weather Outside is Frightful What a funny Fall. The fine weather stuck around a good long while which was fabulous. We enjoyed a lovely long weekend in Lake Pepin. But then, BAM. Sudden cold snap. January in November. Thanksgiving was bitterly cold. Naturally all the snow melted just in time for Christmas. And didn’t […]
Dynamic Duos
Another Walk About, After Dark Intentionally or subconsciously…lately I’ve been shooting plenty of pairings. Often completely random – or random-ish – in compelling combinations. Friends, lovers, co-workers, but also people meeting for the first time. I’d like to do more of the latter. Another photo project to assign myself!
Autumn Leaves
A Tale of Two Henrys Fall is my favorite time of year. The changing of the leaves, the onset of sweater weather, and my most favorite of all holidays – Halloween! I love it all. And I was thrilled when asked to take outdoor portraits during this season for not one but two little boys […]
The Germanic Institute
A September Wedding on Summit Avenue Last year I took a walk around St. Paul’s Lowertown neighborhood with a lovely couple, shooting their engagement photos on an uber-hot August day. Fast forward a year and a month and they asked me back, to capture their big wedding day. The weather was much milder this go […]
Skin Deep
More Than Just a Pretty Face My focus lately has been on pulling some pretty specific pieces together for an upcoming show (mark your calendars – Friday, March 4th – more info to come). But that doesn’t keep me from shooting any and everything else along the way. Especially the cast of characters I come […]
